Contributed by: News Canada

(NC) - Looking for a way to escape holiday crowds and traffic? Turn to the kitchen for gift-giving inspiration. Spend some relaxing time making heart-of-the-home gifts that show you care. Try this decoration idea for your table-top Christmas Tree. This is for decoration only and is not edible.

  • Preparation

    • From your local craft store, buy a Christmas Tree Styrofoam form and base.
    • Make or buy a basic Royal Frosting Recipe (see below).
    • Select Jelly Belly® ingredients to use as the decoration on this tree.
    • Assemble all the ingredients and proceed to make frosting for the tree.

    Meringue Powder Royal Frosting

    • 2 tbsp. (25 ml) Meringue powder
    • 1/4 cup (50 ml) Water
    • 2 1/3 cups (575 ml) Icing Sugar

In a bowl, beat meringue powder with water until combined. Gradually beat in icing sugar until very stiff, about 4 minutes. Cover with damp cloth to prevent drying out. Makes about 1 - 1 1/2 cups (375 ml).

Drying time, during the application of the frosting on the Styrofoam is approximately 1/2 hour after frosting is applied. Allow the bottom third layer to harden so that you have a solid foundation for the middle and top portions of the tree.

This frosting will act as a coating in which to secure these Christmas candies.

Christmas Candies and Jelly Belly jelly beans are used to decorate this tree.

Bottom Third (Begin with the bottom layer first)

    • Snow balls
    • Foil wrapped chocolate mix
    • Tummy Bears
    • Very Cherry Jelly Belly beans
    • Xmas Tree Taffy

    Middle Third

    • Red and Green Non-Pareil Buttons
    • Snow Balls
    • Xmas Mix
    • Bridge Mix
    • Jalapeo Jelly Belly beans
    • Mixed Xmas Mix
    • Christmas Jordan Almonds

    Top Third

    • Cherry Sours
    • Jalapeo Jelly Belly beans
    • Very cherry Jelly Belly beans
    • Coconut Jelly Belly beans
    • Green / Red / White candy corn

Base - Coated in Espresso Jelly Belly beans. Apply the frosting lightly and evenly to the Christmas tree form. Add Jelly Belly jelly beans and Christmas candy to make a pattern of your choice.

    Happy Holidays
