Quick Safety Tips For Baking With Kids

Contributed by: News Canada

(NC) - It's fun to bake with our children, so here are some refresher safety tips in the kitchen, courtesy of Duncan Hines:

  • Teach kids about the oven - show how to check that burners and oven are on or off. Explain that an adult must be nearby to help

  • Set a good example by always using oven mitts or potholders around the oven

  • Always supervise children when they use knives and emphasize that knives are not toys

  • Have a sturdy stool or booster seat available to avoid unnecessary accidents

  • Teach kids about the importance of hygiene when baking: wash hands with plenty of soap and water, tie back long hair and put on an apron

  • Keep a list of safety tips posted in your kitchen
