(NC) - Ever wondered how to make perfect hard-cooked eggs? It's easier than you might think. Just follow these directions and tips from eggs.ca and you'll have a healthy, delicious, protein-rich snack that will provide you with long-lasting energy.
Preparation: 2 minutes - Cooking time: 10 minutes - Standing time: 18 minutes
Place cold eggs in a single layer in a saucepan. Cover with at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) cold water over top of the eggs. Cover saucepan and bring quickly to a boil over high heat. Remove pan immediately from heat to stop boiling. Let eggs stand in water, covered, for 18 to 23 minutes. Drain water and immediately run cold water over eggs until cooled.
- Refrigerate hard-cooked eggs and use within one week.
- Eggs that have been in the refrigerator the longest are easier to peel than very fresh eggs.
- Rapid cooling helps prevent a grey ring from forming around the yolk.
- Keep hard-cooked eggs in your refrigerator for quick breakfasts, snacks, salad toppings and sandwich fillings.
- To peel a hard-cooked egg, crackle shell all over by tapping egg on a hard surface. Roll egg between your hands to loosen shell. Begin peeling at the large end. Hold egg under cold running water or dip in a bowl of water to help ease off the shell.
