(NAPSA) - Women are becoming the stars of the summer and early fall grilling season, research shows. In fact, the number of women grilling outdoors has more than doubled over the past few years.

Why? Today's woman is fitness-focused, health-oriented and time-starved. Accommodating busy schedules, women are motivated to try new cooking methods and meal options. In short, the ease and appeal of grilling is changing the way families prepare meals.

For women heading to the grill, Elizabeth Karmel, well known as "Queen of the Grill," has some great grilling tips.

"Remember basic essentials like firing up your grill-before you want to cook-to ensure preheating," she says. "Also, tune into timing-an instant-read thermometer will tell when the food is done-before it gets overdone."

Seasoning is also important for turning out great grilled foods. In fact, Karmel recommends her "Grilling Trilogy." First, brush food with olive oil, then season with kosher salt and freshly ground pepper. According to Karmel, these three ingredients, and the heat of the grill, bring out robust flavors, especially in a food like turkey.

"For those looking for something healthy and tasty, try turkey on the grill," she says. "Turkey is lean, tastes great, and is a crowd pleaser, especially with kids. Plus, it can take on a whole world of flavors."

Research from the USDA Economic Research Service shows Americans are cooking more turkey than ever. Since 1950, Americans have increased their use of turkey more than three-fold.

That's a lot of turkey, and it's not just the traditional whole bird anymore. Information from Honeysuckle White, a leading brand of premium turkey products, shows that turkey can be found in most grocery store meat cases in many different forms, including breast cutlets, turkey tenderloins, ground turkey, turkey sausages, turkey bratwurst and more. All are great for the grill.

"Turkey is a great choice for a cookout," Karmel says. "Ground turkey makes a great burger, tenderloins make great kabobs, and turkey brats are a favorite of kids of all ages."
