(NC) - Add some sizzle to your barbeque menu this summer by grilling a turkey. Cooking a tender, juicy, picture-perfect turkey on the barbeque is very easy. Butterball has a whole, fresh bird - the L'il Turkey - that is the perfect size for the grill and requires very little preparation. Just follow these simple step-by-step instructions for a perfectly grilled bird.
Preheat the gas barbeque to medium low.
Place the unstuffed turkey, breast-up on a rack in a shallow pan. (Don't forget to remove giblets and neck. Do not stuff.)
Brush the turkey with vegetable oil.
Put 1 1/2 cm (1/2 inch) of water in the pan (not touching turkey) and add water as needed during cooking.
Place the pan in the centre of the grill and close the lid. It is important that the turkey fit under the lid with at least 2-3 cm of space between top of turkey and lid.
Rotate the pan after one hour to ensure even cooking.
Continue to cook until the meat thermometer placed in the inner thigh reads 82 C (180 F) and in the breast reads 77 C (170 F).
