Simple Solutions to Smarter Snacking

(NewsUSA) - Looking for simple ways to excite your everyday snacking routine that don't involve the office vending machine? What about smart snacking options for the kids that will satisfy their hunger until dinner time?

PB&J Poppers
According to a survey conducted by Kelton Research on behalf of The J.M. Smucker Company, one-third of American adults say that their biggest snacking dilemma is their snacks are not nutritious or good for them. Seventy-five percent of American adults surveyed said that they would be interested in smarter snacking solutions.

To help encourage snackers to get creative and try something new during their mid-day breaks, The J.M. Smucker Company, the makers of Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter™, has developed a list of simple snacking tips and recipes that put a new twist on this popular pantry staple. Natural peanut butter contains zero grams of trans fatty acids and is made with only peanuts and salt, making it a smart option to include in your and your family's daily snacking routine. Some snacking tips include:

  • Spread two tablespoons of Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter on celery sticks, whole wheat crackers or apple slices.

  • Combine two tablespoons of Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter with part-skim ricotta cheese, refrigerate and spread on graham crackers.

  • Spread Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter over a plain rice cake, and top it off with sliced apples or bananas.

Smucker's has also developed new and easy to make snacking recipes that satisfy those morning and mid-day cravings. Try these delicious PB&J Poppers or visit for more recipes and tips.

  • Cinnamon to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. minced dried apricots
  • 1 cup low-fat granola

In a small bowl, combine the peanut butter, preserves, cinnamon and minced dried apricots. Measure the mixture by a half rounded teaspoonful. Roll rounded ball into granola and place in candy-sized paper cups.
