Classic Black Beans And Rice

Contributed by: NAPSA

Eating "Heart Healthy" (NAPSA) - Many health-conscious Americans are waking-up to the following fact: Eating heart-healthy snacks and meals may help increase life span, energy levels and overall well-being.

One of the easiest-and tastiest-ways to cut the fat in your diet is to eat natural foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. For example, rice is cholesterol-free, contains only a trace of fat and is enriched with thiamin, niacin, and iron. Beans are also a delicious low-fat choice; they are high in fiber and folic acid and are a great source of protein. In fact, as part of a low-fat diet combined with regular exercise, beans are recognized in helping prevent cancer, heart disease and obesity.

Fortunately, consumers striving for a healthier lifestyle don't have to miss out on great taste and rich flavor. There are a variety of dishes to choose from. For example:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. Goya Olive Oil
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup green pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp. Minced Garlic
  • 1 can Goya Black Beans, undrained
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 packet Goya Sazon without Annatto
  • 1 tbsp. White Cooking Wine or cider vinegar
  • 2 cups cooked white rice

Directions:

Heat oil in saucepan over medium heat. Stir in onion, pepper, and garlic; cook until tender, about 8-10 minutes.

Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, simmer 10 minutes. Serve over white rice.
