Ingredients:

    Chocolate Chip Pancakes
  • 1 cup all purpose flour (250 mL)
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (125 mL)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (50 mL)
  • 2 tsp baking powder (10 mL)
  • 1/4 tsp salt (1 mL)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (125 mL)
  • 1/2 vanilla bean

Directions:

Combine flours, sugar, baking powder and salt. Pour into a 500 mL canning jar. Layer in chocolate chips. Place vanilla bean on top. Place lid on jar and attach a gift card with the following recipe.

Instructions on the Gift Gard:

You will need the contents of this jar and:

  • 1 1/4 cups milk (300 mL)
  • 3 tbsp Imperial margarine, melted (45 mL)
  • 2 eggs

Open the jar and remove the vanilla bean; reserve. Combine the milk, margarine and eggs in a medium bowl. Split the vanilla bean and scrape the seeds into the milk mixture. (The remaining bean can be stored in sugar to make vanilla flavoured sugar.)

Add the contents of the jar to the milk mixture and whisk together until the batter is smooth. Ladle or spoon a desired amount of batter into a lightly greased pan or griddle set over medium heat. When bubbles form on the surface, turn the pancake. Cook on second side until golden.

Serving Size: Makes 8 Large or 12 Medium Pancakes
