Edible Stocking Stuffers

Contributed by: News Canada

(NC) - Tired of the annual mandarin orange in the toe of your stocking? For an edible stocking stuffer with a zesty twist Anna Olson, host of Sugar, suggests updating the tradition with homemade fudgy, orange-scented brownie treats.

Chocolate-Orange Brownie Bites

Preheat oven to 350 F and grease mini-muffin tin.

Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter (over stove or in microwave) and pour into a larger bowl.

Sift 1 cup of cocoa into butter and stir in. Stir in 1 3/4 cups of sugar. Add 4 room temperature eggs to mixture, blending well after each addition. Stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and the zest of one orange.

In a separate bowl, combine 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt (do not sift).

Add to cocoa mixture and blend. Stir in 1/2 cup of diced candied orange peel.

Scrape into pan and bake for 35 minutes, until firm when touched in the centre. Cool completely before storing at room temperature in an airtight container.

Serving Size: Makes 36
