Contributed by: News Canada This holiday season, please indulge responsibly (NC) - Let's face it, the holidays are no time to diet. It's a season of relaxation and indulging in the good things life has to offer. However it's hard to ignore that nagging voice in the back of your head telling you you're going to regret having that extra helping of turkey, or bowl of ice cream once the New Year rolls around. This turkey recipe is perfect for holiday celebrations. It's low-stress, low-maintenance, and because it's made with Uncle Ben's Converted Rice, it's low GI making it different from other white rices. It's digested gradually, causing a slower rise in blood sugar, which allows the body to burn fat more easily and feel satisfied for longer. Ingredients:
Directions: Sliver almonds and brown lightly in melted butter or margarine. Remove from pan. Blend flour with remaining fat. Slowly add consommé and water and cook over low heat (350 degrees), stirring constantly, until sauce is thickened. Add salt. Place cooked rice in buttered individual casseroles or larger baking dish. Top with turkey, or nest turkey in center of rice. Sprinkle with toasted almonds and cover for approximately 20 minutes or until thoroughly heated and sauce bubbles. Preparation: 35 minutes Serving Size: Makes 4 Servings |
