Pork and Onion Italiano

Contributed by: NAPSA

Convenience Cooking For Hectic Nights

(NAPSA) - For many families, there's hardly enough time to sit down and enjoy a meal together, much less spend hours in the kitchen preparing a feast. Fortunately, it's possible to create hearty, delectable dishes with everyday ingredients, items that give people a chance to slow down and spend time at the table-even on a hectic night.

Pork and Onion Italiano
One ingredient that can add a lot of natural flavor to a variety of dishes is the storage onion, which can be found in the produce section from August through April. Available in yellow, red and white, storage onions have a bold flavor and a higher percentage of solids, making them an excellent choice for savory dishes that require longer cooking times or more flavor.

Put together this flavorful Italian-inspired family dish after a busy day. Convenience ingredients help keep the cooking quick and easy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 pounds pork loin sirloin chops or pork shoulder blade steaks
  • 2 tsp. each ground cumin and chili powder
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, cut into narrow wedges
  • 1 can (141/2 oz.) Italian recipe stewed tomatoes
  • 1 package (9 oz.) fresh linguini pasta
  • Grated parmesan and fresh or dried minced herbs

Directions:

Trim meat from bones and fat; cut into small cubes. Dust pork with cumin and oregano. Heat oil in skillet, add onions and pork and saute over medium-high heat until cooked through, about 8 minutes. Add tomatoes and heat. Cook linguini in boiling water about 2 minutes or as package directs.

Drain and serve with pork-onion sauce on top. Sprinkle with cheese.
