Contributed by: News Canada Unforgetable Parties: Serve Cocktails Made From Icebergs (NC) - To get a party underway, there is nothing like serving your own "house special", especially when that drink creates an irresistable talking point. Iceberg Vodka can do just that. In other words, tell guests a few of these fascinating facts, and watch the conversation flow: Tell them that the vodka they are drinking is made with the purest water on earth. It comes from 12,000-year-old ice from the Canadian Arctic. Icebergs do not contain any impurities, whereas spring water - often believed to be pure - contains at least 23 parts per million of impurities. Tell them the all-Canadian vodka, Iceberg Vodka, won a Gold medal and a "Best Buy" designation at The World Spirit Championships held in Chicago in 1998, beating all the top-selling brand names in the world. And again this summer, it won a Silver medal at The International Wine and Spirits Competition held in London, England. Tell them that the harvesting of these icebergs has produced jobs for many Newfoundland fishermen, since the massive ice pieces drift south through the North Atlantic along Newfoundland's north-east coast. From there, the ice is taken ashore, crushed and melted, then slow-blended with triple-distilled neutral grain spirits produced from Ontario sweet corn. It is then triple filtered again and bottled. "The result is an exceedingly smooth and refined vodka with the slightest hint of sweetness," says Gary Pollack, president of Canadian Iceberg Vodka Corporation. "It has complex undertones of an earthy grain flavour and the aroma of sweet corn." This competatively-priced, ultra-premium vodka is distributed through provincial liquor control boards. Directions: Pour vodka and cranberry juice into a tall glass and garnish with a slice of lime. |
