Make Pistachios The MVP Of Your Super Bowl
Party (NAPSI) - For many football fans, snacking is as essential to the big game as the players.
Whether you're enjoying the game on your own or huddling at a party with friends, delicious snacks are a must-and topping the list of snacking necessities is something salty and crunchy with great taste.
Pistachios make a terrific game-time snack-they're even shaped like little footballs. The delicious, rich taste is balanced by a hint of salt and a satisfying crunch, and cracking open the
shells can occupy your hands during tense moments in the game.
Researchers have found that including nuts in the diet does not appear to cause weight gain as long as total calories are controlled. Furthermore, snacking on a serving of nuts prior to a
meal can help prevent overeating. A serving of pistachios contains such nutrients as potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, thiamin and vitamins A, E and B6. Pistachios also contain predominately monounsaturated fat, similar to the fat found in olive oil, which has been linked to lowering cholesterol levels-a good way to help football fans stay healthy.
- 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 2 tablespoons dry onion soup mix
- 1 cup shelled, roasted/salted California pistachios
- 2 quarts popped popcorn
Place butter and onion soup mix in covered, microwave-safe, 4-cup glass bowl. Cook in
microwave on High for 11/2 minutes. Stir in pistachios.
Place popcorn in large bowl. Toss lightly
with butter-pistachio mixture. Serve warm.
Serving Size: Makes 2 quarts
