Busier lifestyles result in 10 million Canadians living unbalanced lives
(NC) - Most of us know that striking a balance between work, physical activity, proper nutrition and recreation can help enhance our well-being. Despite this, almost a third of Canadians feel that they aren't living a balanced life, according to the Country Harvest +Plus Balance Index, a survey conducted by Angus Reid Strategies.
The survey also revealed that four in ten respondents (42 per cent) reported that they felt they worked too much with 49 per cent of men and 27 per cent of women indicating they work 40 or more hours a week. And while experts recommend seven to eight hours of sleep a night, it seems that more than a third of respondents (37 per cent) are receiving less than seven hours of sleep a night and only 28 per cent receive a full eight hours or more.
"Eating well fits into the overall formula for living life to the fullest," says nutrition expert Isabelle Huot, PhD. "A healthy diet not only nourishes the body, but it also nourishes the mind and soul, giving you the energy you need."
Huot recommends choosing foods that are high in nutritional value. When choosing breads, for instance, look for products that are a source of omega-3, made with 100 per cent whole grains and deliver twice the amount of fibre, iron and folate (folic acid), and great taste, such as new Country Harvest +Plus.
