(NAPSA) - No matter how you stack them, s'mores continue to be an American favorite. The ooey-gooey treats (made by stacking and melting marshmallow and chocolate on graham crackers) have found their way from summertime campfires to backyard barbecues, trendy restaurants and household kitchens across the country.
If you're a smore connoisseur, the experts recommend the following tips for making your favorite treat even better:
Mix It Up
Different ingredients can put a new twist on s'mores. For instance, try flavored graham crackers or use chocolate chip, peanut butter or sugar cookies in place of the graham crackers altogether. Marshmallows also come in flavors, such as toasted coconut and chocolate.
For a more intense chocolate flavor, try using ingredients such as Hershey's Special Dark candy bars (traditionalists can stick with Hershey's milk chocolate). In addition, Reese's Peanut Butter can be spread on the chocolate bar before heating, or you can add a slice of banana or some maraschino cherries for a new flavor.
In The Backyard
Try firing up the grill and breaking out the s'mores at your next outdoor function. Just stack the ingredients (cracker, chocolate, marshmallow, cracker), cover with foil and heat for four to six minutes.
In The Kitchen
You don't have to be outside to enjoy s'mores. You can heat the treats in your broiler, or try this recipe for making s'mores in the microwave:
- 2 graham crackers, broken into halves
- 2 marshmallows
- 1 Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar (1.55 oz.), broken into pieces
Place 1 graham cracker half on paper towel; top with chocolate bar half and marshmallow. Microwave at HIGH (100%) 10 to 15 seconds or just until marshmallow begins to puff. Immediately top with second graham cracker half; press together gently.
Repeat for each serving. Serve immediately.
