(NC) - Tired of the annual mandarin orange in the toe of your
stocking? For an edible stocking stuffer with a zesty twist Anna Olson, host of
Sugar, suggests updating the tradition with homemade fudgy, orange-scented
Chocolate-Orange Brownie Bites
Preheat oven to 350 F and grease mini-muffin tin.
Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter (over stove or in
microwave) and pour into a larger bowl.
Sift 1 cup of cocoa into butter and stir in. Stir in 1
3/4 cups of sugar. Add 4 room temperature eggs to mixture, blending well after
each addition. Stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and the zest of one
In a separate bowl, combine 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour,
1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt (do not sift).
Add to cocoa mixture and blend. Stir in 1/2 cup of diced
candied orange peel.
Scrape into pan and bake for 35 minutes, until firm when
touched in the centre. Cool completely before storing at room temperature in an
