Guilt-Free Icy Treats

Contributed by: News Canada

Patio Prescription: Guilt-Free Icy Treats (NC) - Making healthier choices in your diet is not always easy and summertime can be a challenging time for sticking to better eating habits, especially with the temptation of ice cream and other frozen treats. But, while it may seem insurmountable when that banana split is calling your name, it really is possible to satisfy that craving for something cold and sweet without having to forfeit on flavour or your resolve to live a healthier lifestyle.

Guilt-Free Icy Treats
Try these delicious, low fat recipes using the new Hamilton Beach Icy Treats Maker. By switching out higher fat products with lower fat versions and using the healthy ingredients found in these recipes, you can help lower your risk of heart disease and stroke. What's more, you won't be screaming for ice cream anymore.

Ice Milk Milkshake - Freeze low fat chocolate milk. Shave frozen milk into a glass then fill glass with more low fat chocolate milk. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Skinny Pina Colada - Stir 2 tablespoons coconut into 3/4 cup pineapple juice then freeze. Shave into a cone or bowl and garnish as desired.

Orange Cow - Freeze orange juice then shave into a glass. Fill glass with low fat milk and enjoy.

Frozen Yogurt Banana Berry Smoothie - Freeze 6 to 8 ounces of low fat strawberry yogurt. Shave frozen yogurt into a bowl. Combine shaved frozen yogurt, 3/4 cup low fat milk and 1/2 banana in a blender and blend until desired consistency.
