A Tasty Way To Bring The Family Together

Contributed by: NAPSA

(NAPSA) - Any way you slice it, family pizza night is great fun and can be a terrific tradition.

One thing that makes pizza night even more delicious is topping the evening off by making dessert pizza with the family. The best part is, it's not only easy, it's fun too!

Dessert Pizza

  • 1 roll refrigerated sugar cookie dough
  • 1 can Lucky Leaf cherry pie filling
  • 1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 deg. F. Grease 12-inch pizza pan or large baking sheet. Press cookie dough onto prepared pizza pan to measure an 8-inch circle. Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.

In mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla until smooth. Spread mixture over cooled cookie crust. Top with cherry pie filling. Cut into wedges and serve immediately or cover and chill until ready to serve.

There are many variations to the recipe. Here are a few:

  • Instead of cream cheese mixture (cream cheese, sugar & vanilla) as the "sauce" use 3 tablespoons Musselman's Apple Butter.
  • For the cherry pie filling, substitute another Lucky Leaf pie filling flavor such as apple, strawberry or blueberry.
  • Toppings (use one or a combination of these on top of the pie filling):
  • Candy coated chocolate pieces
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Chocolate chips
  • Coconut
  • Nuts
  • Sprinkles
  • Icing
  • Instead of sugar cookie dough, use chocolate chip, oatmeal or peanut butter cookie dough.
  • For PB&J dessert pizza, use peanut butter cookie dough, top with cherry or strawberry pie filling and peanuts.
  • Separate cookie dough into quarters, roll out to make "personal pizzas," bake and let each family member top their own with their favorite toppings.

More Family Fun

Another way to bring the family together is to make these quick, easy cookies with your kids:

Apple Butter Nut Cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup apple butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped peanuts or walnuts
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Preheat oven to 400 deg. F. Cream butter, shortening and sugars; add apple butter and egg. Mix well. Stir dry ingredients together and combine with apple butter mixture. Add chopped nuts and raisins. Drop by teaspoonfuls on greased cookie sheet.

Press lightly with fork that has been dipped in sugar. Bake for 10-11 minutes.
