Make a Breakfast Worth Waking Up For

(NewsUSA) - When the weather's cold, you need a little extra incentive to get out of bed. Planning a healthy, warm and delicious breakfast can only make dark winter mornings feel that much brighter.

Warm Texas Citrus with Brown Sugar
Few Americans eat enough fruit, so why not fit some fresh, healthy foods into your regular daily routine? Citrus fruit makes for a wonderful wintertime treat. Grapefruit and oranges are free of fat, saturated fat and cholesterol. They also contain 100 percent of your vitamin C, as well as vitamin A and dietary fiber.

Try this warming recipe for a healthy breakfast worth waking up for:

  • 2 medium Rio Star Grapefruit, sectioned
  • 2 medium Texas Oranges, sectioned
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

In a medium bowl, combine grapefruit, oranges and pineapple. Transfer to a 1-quart broiler-safe casserole dish.

In a small bowl, stir together brown sugar and butter until well mixed; sprinkle over fruit.

Broil about 4 inches from heat for 5 to 6 minutes until sugar is bubbly and fruit is warmed.

Texasweet Rio Star Grapefruit make for an especially sweet and delicious morning meal. In South Texas, a sub-tropical climate and sunny skies create optimal growing conditions for sweet, juicy grapefruit. The Rio Star variety, a bright red grapefruit, is tree-ripened and hand-picked to ensure the best quality.

Texas Rio Star Grapefruit are available October through May throughout the country. Shoppers can distinguish this grapefruit by their "Texas" stickers. Choose grapefruit with a red blushed skin that feel heavy for their size.
