Mom's Molasses Sugar Cookies

Very moist cookie. From grandma to mom. Especially good all year long, Christmas too.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses (dark)
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Raspberry jam
Directions:
In a large pan melt shortening, add sugar, molasses and egg, beat well.
Sift dry ingredients, add spices, salt, soda and add this to first mixture.
Mix well - chill.
Roll into 1" balls, roll balls in sugar.
Bake 375 degrees on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, about 2" apart.
Bake 4 minutes, remove from oven.
Put 1/4 teaspoon raspberry jam in center of each cookie.
Return to oven bake 4 minutes longer or until you feel the cookie is done.
Serving Size: Makes 3 Dozen
