Cooking With Kids (NC) - So the kids are home and you don't know how to entertain them? Why not open your pantry and fridge and get cooking?

Kids love to get their hands dirty, so why not let them do it while helping you prepare tasty and nutritious meals? Cooking together will turn into a fun learning experience that will help your kids become more independent and aware of the importance of a varied diet. If you get them started when they're young, they'll get in the habit of cooking for themselves and it will help them to limit their intake of fast food, which is typically high in calories, sugar and fat.

  • 1/4 cup salsa 60 mL
  • 4 flour tortillas or 4 flavoured wraps
  • 1/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese 60 mL
  • 4 slices smoked turkey or chicken

Directions:

In steamer, lightly steam beans until tender-crisp; set aside.

Spread 1 tbsp (15 mL) salsa on each tortilla. Sprinkle with 1 tbsp (15 mL) cheese. Wrap one turkey slice around 12 beans, allowing beans to stick out at both sides; place at one end of tortilla. Wrap tortilla around beans. Repeat for remaining wraps.

Microwave each wrap on high for about 20 to 30 seconds or until filling is hot and cheese melts.
